Description
This four-session course will focus on using creative inventions for collaborative group process for all ages. This series is especially useful for play therapists.
Part I will introduce play, creative approaches, and core group therapy competencies. Part 2, offered in April 2025, will deepen group process, continuing the use of creative therapies.
Demonstration activities will explore symbol activation, drawing and drama theater, poetry and puppets, doll house and landscape images, music and movement therapies, gestalt techniques, therapeutic metaphors, narrative techniques, and fairy tales in group therapy.
Foundational group ideas, such as goal setting, interpersonal power, clinical contracts, group cohesion, culture and identity, safety, and integrating therapy models will ground creative collaborative group process.
Applying play therapy principles and competencies, this is an experiential series with participant role play.

- Describe three expressive and play therapies that can be used across the lifespan in group therapy.
- Describe two group facilitation skills to maintain safety, power balance, collaboration, cohesion and creativity.
- State three play therapy principles to support group process.
- Describe the relevance of culture, cohesion, and intersubjectivity in group therapy.
- Explain two exercises to practice innovation, depth, safety and flow for group therapy.
- State three models that can guide group therapy from psychoeducational to depth therapy.
